Marietta Reading Club

Celebrating 150 years of Intellectual Discussion

Founded in 1864, during the height of the Civil War, the Marietta Reading Club's emphasis on reading aloud hearkens back to the lyceum and lecture circuit, while its emphasis on the printed page speaks to an intellectual desire to connect to a wider body of thought across both space and time.

The Marietta Reading Club has a long historical tradition of attentive listening, critical questioning, witty interchange, and brilliant inquiry. Read about the Marietta Reading Club in The Marietta Times. The Club is gearing up for its 150th anniversary with a season of celebrations and programs related to the club's history.
